Sony Alpha Female: The Interviews are live videocasts hosted by Sony Artisan and portrait photographer, Monica Sigmon. Each episode will feature an exciting, talented, difference-making female artist from the Sony Alpha Female community in an unscripted, authentic conversation with Monica. A range of topics will be covered, depending on the guest, and where the conversation leads us! Tune in for enlightening episodes that are sure to inspire you.

In Episode 7 of Sony Alpha Female: The Interviews, Monica interviews Dr. Tomayia Colvin, a fellow Sony Artisan of Imagery with an incredible mind for business and helping other photographers create profitable businesses. Monica and Tomayia will discuss her work to celebrate diversity and amplify the voices of photographers of color, the challenges of staying creative as entrepreneurs, and real life solutions to real life problems.

Monica opened her Williamsburg studio in 2000 and quickly built a successful business with a reputation for excellence and cutting-edge imagery. She has earned the prestigious Craftsman and Master’s Degrees from the Professional Photographers of America, was recognized as Kodak’s Photographer to Watch in 2007 and was named a Sony Artisan of Imagery in 2021.

Monica is a popular speaker and travels to speak to professional photographers around the country. She has earned the reputation for providing entertaining programs on marketing, building your brand and running a luxury studio with authenticity; energizing seasoned studio owners and inspiring new photographers alike.

Tomayia Colvin
Dr. Tomayia Colvin, a Sony Artisan of Imagery, is a multifaceted professional excelling as a high school senior portrait photographer, influential photography educator, and marketing and business strategy powerhouse in Houston, Texas. As the founder of Tomayia Colvin Education and The Photo Cookout, she leverages her expertise to empower aspiring photographers with both creative and entrepreneurial skills. Dr. Colvin's mission extends beyond capturing images and teaching business acumen; she's actively working to celebrate diversity and amplify the voices of photographers of color, reshaping the landscape of professional photography through her strategic approach and inclusive vision.
