First, it's always best to understand what it is you're shooting. What is the subject? What is the photo about?

Then when you're there you can look at different ways of shooting it. Maybe it is telephoto, or wide, maybe it is at night, or maybe you get your camera close to the ground of objects to create depth.

I remember shooting the trolley on Lombard Street in San Francisco, a scene that has been shot 1,000 times. I looked down at my feet and noticed "Lombard St" was engraved in the sidewalk.

So I set my camera close to the ground slightly angled down to capture that as foreground as the trolley went by.

Do you edit people out of your landscape images? How do you know when to edit them out or when to keep them in?

I do all the time, in fact I edit out a lot of stuff haha. I look at it in a way of "if it doesn't compliment" what the photo is about than I take it out. Recently I edited a beach scene and there were dozens of people on the beach which isn't as impactful as a single person staring out into the ocean.

So if it doesn't compliment the scene or is distracting from the subject or message you're trying to capture, then I'd take it out.

This is something that I'm still working on - balancing the ideal image I'm looking to complete, but also keeping the authenticity of the moment.

What do you like the most about your Sony setup?

So much to love, but my favorite is the size and weight. If you're shooting a lot of for long hours your wrist can get sore. This is also true when hiking! A lighter bag definitely goes a long way on your back.

I'd say the 2 most important tools for me in Lightroom are Tone Curve and HSL.
