UV Filter on 200-600

I am shooting with the A7riii, 200-600 lens, with a uv filter.  Multiple forums are suggesting I remove the UV filter for sharper images.  Can anyone confirm that shooting without the filter will produce sharper images?  Thanks!

Hi Brian,

What is your reason for having the filter?  

I don't think you will get a definitive answer on this other than putting anything in front of the lens may degrade the image.  To what extent will depend on the quality of filter. 

If it was me I would always use the lens hood, if I were shooting in a sandy or gritty environment I would use the filter to protect the lens glass, additionally I would wrap the lens and camera body too.

Thank you, Angus.  I use a filter primarily as lens protection. I will give it a test run without the filter and see if there is a big difference in image sharpness.
