  1. I find myself leaving the 12-24 2.8 at home often collecting dust. But then I take it out and purposely use it for an architectural or sports event and scratch my head wondering why it stays home so often? It has a beautiful look and is quite sharp for a non G lens
  2. First you must understand the sport and how it flows, meaning where should you be for the best angle. Shoot to get the shot, not to miss it. Too many times I see some photographers basically shooting a video of a play with a still camera so they dont miss anything. If youre in tune with the action you should be able to anticipate the play if you understand the sport and shoot to get the shot with purpose. Yes, you'll miss some but you'll also have more keepers and develop the skill. I was told once I still shoot digital like I was shooting film by a former SI shooter. I thought I was doing something wrong but it was actually a compliment...."your shooting with purpose, thats a good thing".
  3. I just wish that Sony would enter the twentieth century when it comes to firmware updates for we Apple users. Its become impossible and always has me asking for loaner PCs from friends.
  4. Always enjoy your posts PM-R, I picked up the 24-70 2.8ii and found I liked what I saw over my favorite 24-105, so that along with the 70-200 2.8ii with a 1.4 teleconverter for downcourt have been my kit thus far. But thanks to your comment I'm packing the 135 1.8 for my trip this week to the Women's NCAA in Greenville. I actually used the 135 yesterday for an NCAA indoor tennis match and was impressed with the results. **bleep** that lens is sharp!
  5. Ive been using it alone, but for shooting down court at NBA games with the 1.4 converter I am getting fantastic results. Truly a great version of this lens!.
  6. Probably the one lens I dont own, but I have heard nothing but great things about this lens for portraiture. I usually use the 85, but also love..and I mean cant wait to pull it out of my bag the 135mm. All cant create a masterpiece of an image with the right eye behind the camera!
  7. A few years ago I was shooting at the Outback Bowl in Florida. I was standing next to a well known former SI photographer. We had chatted a bit between plays and after a bit he looked at me and asked, "you started shooting with film, didn't you?" Nervous I was doing something wrong, I answered yes. He smiled and said "good", always shoot to get the shot, not just to not miss it. In other words, know the sport, anticipate the moments and where you need to be to get the best angle and shoot with purpose..not out of fear of missing a moment. It will help in post if youre on deadline, and while you may miss a few shots, you'll gradually find you develop and eye that brings you more keepers.
  8. Agree on the Sony 24 1.4...fast focusing and great imaging.
  9. My life in photography started at the age of ten in the boiler room of a small parochial grade school. My science teacher offered to select students, most of whom were introverted, shy, the opportunity to gather on Saturday mornings to learn the chemistry of black and white photography. His hope was to open up the creative abilities of a group of quiet kids and see how they would respond. I remember the first time holding up a roll of developed film, that first print and I was hooked. Since then it has been my best friend in tough times, and continues today to help provide me financial support doing what has become a passion.
  10. I would like to see a firmware update to the A1 that would allow the same focus tracking in the viewfinder in video similar to the 7RV
  11. Switching from Canon to Sony a few years ago now, based in the Charlotte, NC area. Main focus is in Sports Photography followed by Headshot and Portrait. I started at the age of ten with film, learning to process film and prints from a science teacher. Over the years this hobby became a artistic outlet and a passion. My love for the beauty of sport has led me to where I am today. I have always yearned for the opportunity to improve my work, my ability to observe, and to move the bar upwards whenever possible. @JDedmonPhoto
