Society is changing. What was permissible in 1945, 1965 or 1995 may no longer be permissible. The goal remains the same, but the approach needs to change. 15. Many people associate photography with capturing reality, and in most cases this is accurate. A photograph of a finish line, for example, clearly shows the race’s winner. Consider, however, what occurs when the camera angle is altered. Suddenly, the roles of winner and loser may become ambiguous. By shifting their perspective, photographers can profoundly transform not only the image itself but also the narrative it conveys and the emotions it evokes. This is what fine-art photography is all about. This new online workshop with Thibault Roland goes beyond a perspective shift, offering a unique educational opportunity tailored for individuals eager to enhance their skills and delve into the realm of creative photography. Over the course of our weekly sessions, you acquire an array of new techniques in long exposure, infrared photography, minimalism, and tilt/shift. You also learn a number of Thibault’s best post-processing techniques, which promise to lift your images to new heights. By engaging in weekly assignments and receiving constructive image reviews, you witness a noticeable improvement in your photographic abilities. You also discover how the rigorous creative process of working in black and white can positively impact your photography overall, including your approach to color photography. Join Thibault for a transformative deep dive that invites you to enhance your craft and elevate your vision.
  16. Photography has the power to freeze time, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s mind, photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene, atmosphere, and event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives. It is also a way to express ourselves, our point of view, to share our messages. Photography is art. Photography can be abstract and minimalistic. It allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent. Long exposure is a technique that embraces this approach: it transforms reality into something else, into a dialogue between the artist, the subject and viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth, clouds create long silky streaks, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. Long exposure is a different mindset. One that comes from within and uses what is out there in order to produce unique and breathtaking images. Images that go beyond documenting and bridge into the Fine Arts. In this workshop, Thibault Roland will introduce long exposure and will discuss the equipment needed to shoot with this technique. At the end of the presentation, you will have a checklist of the different steps to follow as well as tips and tricks that will help you take breathtaking images using this unique approach. Sony loaner gear will be available free of charge for attendees of this workshop. Click HERE to get your ticket today!

  25. On AlphaUniverse.com the Sony Brand Ambassadors share their most meaningful photographs of the year, and we are looking for more meaningful images and photographers to feature! As we share these articles, we’re considering what makes a meaningful photograph? Is it a technical challenge? The personal story? Or some combination of the two? Reading through the articles, it’s great fun to see what drives them in their artwork. For example, Autumn Schrock shared this adorable photo which represents an incredible trip she took as well as her love of wildlife. While taking this photo, she was also able to relish in beautiful light and the new Sony 300mm lens. This experience was the perfect combination of artistic and personal experiences with technical elements. "I was lucky enough to visit Antarctica this November. This photo is from our first landing and my first time seeing penguins in the wild. I had the new Sony 300mm f/2.8 G Master lens with me to try out, and I was blown away by how small and compact it is with silky smooth bokeh. I couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop with these two nuggets to showcase the icy wonderland that is the Antarctic." "It was so tough to choose just one photo! Going to Antarctica has been a long dream of mine, and I wasn't sure that it would ever come true. I still can't believe that I was able to go, and I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that this massive and remote continent is absolutely teeming with wildlife. As an animal lover, to be able to witness several different species thriving who are only found in this area was incredibly special. I also had no idea that Antarctica has the most stunning landscapes around every bend; jagged, towering peaks that rise straight out of the ocean, seemingly endless golden light in the spring/summer, and glaciers so colossal that my jaw never stopped dropping. It certainly was the experience of a lifetime." – Autumn Schrock Share a photo you took this year that is meaningful to you! And tell us the story behind the shot!
