Another good lens is the Sony 135mm f/1.8 lens.

I like the a7siii on a Gimbal - the flip out screen is very handy. And the high ISO abilitiy is great for low light. Otherwise the a1 is my go to camera.

I too am waiting to upgrade. I usually wait at least 6 months.

When you are shooting in a really dark situation the Auto Focus Illuminator can help you lock in focus. The down side is that the orange 'beam' it uses can be very annoying. If you are trying to be unobtrusive then the beam will announce to everyone that 'there is a photographer taking photos of us'. Even at events and weddings where there is supposed to be a photographer, the beam either makes people uncomfortable knowing that they are being photographed or will have the opposite effect and they will turn towards the camera and strike a very awkward pose. You can of course turn the beam off in the menu, or you can change your focus setting to AF-C, auto focus continuous where the beam does not function. How many of you use the AF Illuminator in your work, and has it created issues with your subjects.

It's all about getting the best image possible, and AF has certainly made shooting birds, sports and other subjects in motion a lot better. Why would you want to revert to an older system that won't provide you with the advantage of getting the image?

Once you get familiar with the Sony system you can move fairly seamlessly between most of the cameras. It is one of the great attributes of Sony and the engineers that develop the Sony cameras.

Nice image - as you mentioned in photography it is good to be prepared, you never know when the moment will happen.

I am sure other veteran photographers have a collection of images either negatives or transparencies that they would like to digitize. I have been using the Sony a7riv and the Sony 90mm Macro lens on a copy stand and getting good results. Is anyone else using this method, and how is that working for you?

I am impressed with the new monitor and its ability to flip out in many directions. This is especially useful when shooting video on a gimbal.!!!!

I love shooting horses in the snow. There is something very majestic about a snow scene with a horse in the composition.

I am old school, but i have come to love silent shooting. The only time there is an issue is under cheap LED lights when you can get banding. I set the camera up so there is a 'blink' in the viewfinder on the edges that indicates the camera is actually taking a photo.😁

As others have mentioned, chromatic aberration was a problem in the past with older lenses. Spending money on good glass is the simple solution. And yes, wide open or completely closed down to f/22 are the times when you can get CA. The other thing that can contribute is shooting into light sources as they will make the issue seem worse.

Licensing is critical to protect the rights to your images. Though the stock business barely exists anymore you still need to be careful what you do with your photos. You would be devastated to see an image that you gave away for a small fee used as for branding a major corporation. Images no longer have territorial licensing as the internet sends images around the world, but you can still put other restrictions in your license. As far as fine art you sell prints directly to the client, but they do not have the copyright to that image, you do. The client only owns the print and can sell the print at any point. But they cannot use the image of the print for any thing else - commercial or editorial.

I love being out and about shooting photos with my Sony Alpha cameras, but there are times when my Sony Xperia phone has its advantages. Whenstrangers see a camera with a large lens they can be reluctant to having their photo taken. But pull out a phone and people are more willing - everyone takes photos with phones so it seems more natural. I also like using my phone when i am doing short videos for social media as it is so fast and easy to do a quick edit on the phone and upload the video. On my Xperia I also have the choice to use "Cinema Pro" which gives me a lot of control of my videos. I have a lot of different cameras, lenses and my phone, what I shoot with totally depends on the situation I am in. How do you feel about using your phone vs your camera?

I try both sunrise and sunset. At sunrise if the temperature change is dramatic and the air humid you can get some great ground fog. Sunset is easier because you are not stumbling around in darkness!!!
