  1. I def agree on that. I always say refine the skillset, and then the gear will help you elevate the skillset. There are alot of people who dont understand this however unfortunately
  2. I know we *should* vlog with a topic or keyword in mind, but I gotta be honest. I like for vlogs to be "free". Meaning not bound by the shackles of SEO, keyword optimization, etc. Conversely, you kind have to if you want your otherwise unsearchable video to become, well..searchable. Its a dance that frankly I hate having to do
  3. I am a person who doesn't think gear really matters when it comes to the reality style vlog videos we love to make. Good content that looks sub-par beats pretty content that boring. I mean sure, it helps, but Mr. Beast got his first 6M+ subs using just a cell phone. The question is, have YOU ever felt like gear was a limiting factor for you when creating vlogs, and if so, why, and how did you overcome that feeling?
  4. I personally think that people who lead extraordinary lifestyles are the perfect people to vlog. When you live a lifestyle that most only get to dream of, just sharing your daily experiences, is enthralling to people, even if it's boring to you. Think about how many times you have watched a video of someone just living their life. I would be doing a lot of day in the life style videos (just my opinion), and that would be your "fresh experience". As you probably know, there are a lot of clearances involved, and a lot of prohibited filming in certain places and times with sports teams/players. So just be mindful of that. I think you should just commit to sharing your lifestyle with people and see where it takes you! You could also interview them or something similar to spice things up. As far as the ZV-E10, it's a great content creation camera, but handheld vlogging is not its strong suits. (the crop and rolling shutter make handheld shooting pretty unusable). Now on a mini tripod? its a fantastic little camera with amazing image quality and loads of features.
  5. for my hybrids win. I love video and photography the same, so having both in one camera is amazing. I do like using old cameras tho. We get spoiled by the amazing cameras we have now. Those older cams give us a reminder of what things were like when WE were growing up!
  6. literally the worst. lol. Talking head video with no b-roll, second angles etc? 20k views in two hours. That video you spent a week on? a straight 10/10 lol
  7. yep! its also fulfilling when you feel like something "failed" and then you re-purpose it as a reel or something and it gets traction. Great feeling of a good payoff from not giving up
  8. I think there was a fad for a while where we needed all those crazy whip pans, swoosh effects, etc. And let's not forget zoom transisitions lmao. I think those still work for short form content. But for YouTube vlog stuff? I much prefer the smoother vibe. Also, I think we have to remember, that people are watching us...FOR US. I think all the extra stuff sometimes disconnects us from our viewers!
  9. Happy New Years! I think it's silly to expect everything we create to be a "winner" right? Some projects and vlogs are just going to fail. Whether its bad footage, bad audio, the story just didn't click, etc. THERE WILL BE VLOGS THAT YOU WON'T WANT TO POST. HOW DO I KNOW? IT JUST HAPPENED TO ME! I went out of town for a few days recently, and figured I would vlog the experience. Started off great! The first two days I was all in. The 3rd day, to be honest, I felt like I was forcing the vlog, and I kind of fell out of love with finishing it. So, I just didn't. So there I was, plenty of footage from the first two days, and then, just nothing after that. It's open ended, no conclusion, and I was about to DELETE the whole thing. Then I remembered, TERRY, DON'T!! If you put your time and effort into something, even if it doesn't go as planned, RE-PURPOSE IT! Take snippets and turn it into short form content for IG, TikTok, Youtube Shorts, etc. Use snippets for color grading reels, failed audio reels etc. IF YOU PUT THE WORK IN ON A "FAILURE", TURN IT INTO A WIN IN ANOTHER WAY!! LET'S CRUSH THIS NEW YEAR!!
  10. NAS here. For what we do its necessary if you want to keep and protect older footage
  11. Happy holidays y'all! I am going to be honest, I didn't create any vlogs over the last few days. I figured its time to take a creative break. During this break, I remembered a crucial tip that Casey Neistat used to employ in his vlogs. USING TRENDING GEAR OR TOPICS to help his vlog get traction. Some don't care if anyone see their vlogs, and I totally get that. However, if you are using vlogs as one of your creative tools to either grow an audience, or engage with your audience, here are two tips: 1. Use trending gear that you can include in your title, and/or description. This increases your chances of your vlog being shown to a viewer who may be searching for, example, "Sony A7RV". Title example could be "A DAY IN THE LIFE, using the NEW SONY A7RV!!", (just an example). Obviously there are a thousand ways to manipulate a title. This is in evergreen approach that can continue to bring your vlogs more traffic as long as the product is being searched for. 2. Use trending topics, that you can include in your title, and/or description. Now, there is a fine line with this method. LOL. You are only as good as the last hot topic lol. Meaning, you could easily find your vlog getting major push for as long as the trending topic is hot, but it also means, once the heat goes away, your vlog viewership could fade with it. Again, this is an easy way to get traffic, but I would only use it as a boost when needed. You can still do your vlogs as usual, but, include something cool thats trending that you may have done in your video. An example could be "I tried the new Tik Tok challenge - Day in the life". Anywho, there are a million tools we can use for vlogging and viewership, and these are just two more. Guaranteed to work? NOPE! But could they work? YEP!
  12. Curious on your opinions. A vlog is a "visual log" of the said story. On one hand, I feel like vlogs should be natural and unscripted, but on the other hand, ESPECIALLY for YouTube, sometimes you NEED to have some type of script or direction for your vlog to Make sure its good content, that you have a solid thumbnail, etc. What you guys and girls think?
  13. Exactly bro. Id rather have that sound and just have to slow it down in post. it's literally one command to retime it in most NLE's. Also, yeah S&Q can give higher bitrates than standard slo mo, but the bitrates are already high enough for YouTube content and even for production work as long as there is no bitrate requirement
  14. I know this post has been up for a little while but I think it's a good one. I find myself using standard slo-mo for the flexibility. I know you SHOULDN'T use your slo mo clips for talking head pieces, but when you are running and gunning it's easy to forget to flip back to your 24/30fps option. I have had it happen more than once. Being able to still save my vlog by having a regular slo-mo clip WITH sound that can be played back at regular speed is game changing. Is dropping 1080p 120fps talking head into a 24p timeline ideal for the "cinematic look"? Lol HEAVENS NO, but in a pinch, it certainly saves the day S&Q has the frame and data rate cooked in. Standard Sony slo-mo has the data they're available to use IF you want to slow it down, but you don't have to.
  15. I carry way to much. I feel like sometimes it takes away from what it is I'm trying to experience... I think we need to focus more on one kit that can get us 70% of the shots we need, instead of trying to make sure every single basis is covered when we are out trying to just capture the moment or the experience. interesting topic
  16. Quick tip or "Hack" (gotta get you to click lol). BUT SERIOUSLY Your vlog does NOT have to be filmed in one day. We get stuck in the trap of the vlog starts at the beginning of the day, and it stops at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, that works, BUT When your vlog encompasses a few days, it makes it more interesting, and your viewers feel like they are spending more time with you, almost like they are on a "journey" with you! Mix it up! Thats all I got! K bye! lol By the say, hit me on ig! @Terry_warfield
  17. It’s an awesome little camera. In fact, it’s my favorite camera. However it has its flaws and shortcomings. As a first camera however, I’d recommend the ZV-E10, specifically fog the bigger sensor and the ability to change lenses, which is HUGE. This means you can grow with the camera, since different lenses can totally change the way your photos and videos look and feel. The ZV1 doesn’t have that capability, but it is a lot smaller. Remember, no camera is perfect. They all have flaws, pros, and cons. It’s about finding the one that checks the most boxes for you
  18. Honestly it’s only us snobs who care. Viewers don’t give a crap as long as the content is good
