  1. @TrekRover I love that photo of the polar bears - that tongue! Oh yeah, I bet the bobbing made it challenging to get a sharp image. What time of day were you all typically shooting?
  2. I love the new photos you shared! You've got a great all-around kit for trying out different subjects. I would say nature and wildlife are my favorite subjects... I love macro photography and photographing bees! But all wildlife is fun for me! I'm in the process of switching my kit fully to Sony. I have the A7RV and now I'm getting more lenses.
  3. @Wojtsobi - stunning as always! I'm blown away by your work... what's your full kit?
  4. @ST I love those bird shots - especially the owls! Do you typically photograph birds? What's your preferred subject?
  5. Ooh @TrekRover, that's probably my dream kit for Antarctica as well! I was recently reading this What's in my Bag article about what this photographer brought to the Arctic and it was similar! Though his wide angle was a 14 prime. https://alphauniverse.com/stories/whats-in-my-bag-a-telephoto-zoom-and-ultra-wide-prime-for-photographing-arctic-wildlife-and-northern-lights/ I've never been to Antarctica but it's certainly on my bucket list!
  6. I love the look of getting tight with a slight wide angle, makes for a super intimate feel!
  7. Hey all! I thought it would be fun to share our June photos. My landlord installed a honeybee hive in our backyard so I've been playing with my Sony A7RV and the Sony 90mm macro. I was also inspired by @CarolineJensen to practice my botanical photography with off camera flash (still need to work on that one!) Also, I helped my brother shoot a film and we got to use crazy fun lights. I added a few BTS photos from the shoot. What were you up to in June? Share your photo dump here!
  8. @Wojtsobi this is a fantastic shot! I've only photographed a bear once in my life and it was also an incredibly special moment. Did you manage to get any images of the cubs?!
  9. @Michael Dikovitsky I love that crocodile shot! The slightly blurred reflection is really nice. When did you travel to South America? What gear did you bring?
  10. This is such a sweet photo! What gear did you bring? Just the A7III and 70-200 or did you pack more? I feel like I would struggle to not just bring every piece of gear I own!
  11. This camera looks so cool! The perfect little camera to bring on hikes and adventures
  12. Hey there! In my experience with macro, the focusing plane is so small, you'll want to shoot at a rough minimum of f/5.6 - f/8 just to have a better chance getting things in focus. So in terms of using this lens for macro, I don't think the aperture will make that big of a difference. For newbies in macro, you might like to be able to have different focal lengths, depending on what you're shooting... I've got my eye on the new 70-200, I think it's going to be a major addition to my macro kit!
  13. I agree with Jessica! The first one is so textural and vibrant that I'm more drawn to it.
  14. Did you all see this Alpha Universe article https://alphauniverse.com/stories/behind-the-shot-photographing-an-elusive-animal-at-night-with-self-timer-bursts/ Some of his shots were at 1/8-second exposure - that blows me away! What's your most memorable photo experience? A time that has just stuck with you? (Photo by Petri Mäkitalo)
  15. Okay got it. Thanks Caroline, I can't wait to try this out!
  16. Also @CarolineJensen, do you have a recommendation for a good light?
  17. These are great tips! I would love to try this out. I've also been fascinated with doing timelapse for mushrooms like this one:
  18. Hey all! Just wanted to share an update: we shot the film with Sony primes - we went with the 50 1.4, 24 1.4, and 35 1.2, then for a few shots we used my 90 macro (not in the macro function though!) We had aperture lights along with some other really high quality lights and it turned out beautifully! Thanks for all the advice!
  19. Hi all! I love this image in a recent Alpha Universe article. It really made me rethink landscapes. I'm always looking to make interesting landscapes, but I do feel myself falling into the super wide-angle, classic viewpoint. I really like that this photographer isolated the image. https://alphauniverse.com/stories/isolate-to-amplify-see-how-make-high-impact-landscapes-in-iconic-places/ What are some ways you make fresh landscapes images?
  20. Thanks Ben, this is really helpful! I appreciate it!
  21. Hey all! I've got an upcoming project and someone was recommending I use cine lenses... I already have E mount lenses and I personally can't tell the difference but what do you all think? This person said it's what really makes a film look cinematic, but again I can't really see a difference.
  22. I can't wait to hear how your flower farm does!! Sounds like it will be amazing! I've been really enjoying spring around here. It's been SO much fun playing with the insect eye autofocus on the A7RV!
  23. Definitely food - I can't be hangery when I'm shooting! And also a fresh pair of socks - you never want to end up with wet feet and not have a clean pair of socks on you!
  24. Wow I love the patterns! Great job 🙂
  25. I've had my eye on the 14mm! I love the close focusing distance, could make for some really interesting shots that look like wide-angle macro!
