  1. As recommended by the experts here, the 24-105 f/4 is great and I use it in almost everything.
  2. I shoot indoor basketball with the lens and crank up my iso. It's solid and the grain is actually on the nice side. You can always use noise removal tools if you don't like them (not lightroom's). There is a gallery on alpha universe website for this lens if you want to see more samples.

I don't believe Mac is the issue. I have one (M1 with latest OS) and used it to update 3 of my lenses with the new updates last month. I didn't have an issue and successfully update them using a7r4. There might previous version of the update driver that is causing this, or the a7r5 is not set to update the lenses yet. Usually it's trial and error to find the problem. But try updating on the A1, if it works then there might be something in the a7r5. Another problem, and it says it on some of the warnings, you would not be able to install the latest firmware if there is more than 1 update in between. Actually some might not have that restriction, but some definitely do.
  4. Will do. But I don't recall seeing a promo of a trade event on alphauniverse.com. Did I miss it or are they promoted through the approved retailers only?
  5. That is the best analogy I've ever heard! Permission to use it Caroline? 🙏
  6. Thank you Tony. Unfortunately, I'm either surrounded by students or by canon hardcores. Not easy to sell a niche GM lens here. I was hoping to get a good price for it and grab the new 24-70. But, I'll keep my hopes up for somebody to offer a good price.
  7. I've have the 14mm 1.8 GM for sometime. Unfortunately, I never found any use for it in my arsenal, even though I have envisioned the images I could get with it. I shot less than 20 images with it. This is the first time that I personally find myself preferring a zoom lens to a prime. Therefore, I plan to sell it and wait for a future 16-35mm 2.8 GM II (I believe with the current stats it should come out in the first half of 2023). My question is: What excellent places to sell my lens? Big companies will cut into the price for their profit margin, while ebay and Facebook market are a high risk. #FE 14mm F1.8 GM
  8. Thank you! I'm learning.

    World Cup

It on! Any photographers here working the world cup? I've been dreaming about shooting some of the matches and events of the major athletic events. I would love if the admins can create some section, here or on alpha universe, to show case the work at the world cup, and to hear from the photographers there.
  10. I love the analog styling, it fits perfectly here. I too love the environmental portraits, usually pat of a set to tell some story, especially during travels.
  11. I have a long bucket list! But I would say the top right now is the highland games in Scotland. And since I'm there, I want to shoot fog, sunrise and sunset scenes of the Loch Ness monster lake and castle.
  12. I only have used it for sports so far and 1 moon shot.
  13. I cannot add anymore to what already have been said. I can tell you the scientific reason behind it, but it's too long and might be too boring to many. But the gist is: if one pixel reads a different color, the AI calculation for WB changes. You have at least 24 million pixels, and they all contribute to the final result (not equally, but still have an impact). I'll throw in another , by Glyn Dewis, that is up-to-date for efficient WB "and colors" workflow.
  14. I want a lighter weight, faster AF, and I don't mind a f/1.4. But the weight is what I want reduced.
  15. Why add a challenge to your livelihood or travels? I would understand if a challenge is used to strengthen a weak skill set, otherwise it's like sprinting in an actual race with weights on. I believe the AF takes away some of the work I used to do and think about it. It is an AI that was made to reduce the workload efficiently, and sometimes preforming better than the user, which is the product of engineering advancement. I totally agree with what you told that photographer in the end. Why pay a lot of money for a lack of technology that is available for cheaper price? The new technology is being developed to "ease" the workflow and reduce the steps taken to increase productivity and efficiency. I would compare their argument to using a computer to write a paper, print it, then use a corrector to erase the mistakes, load the paper back and print only that corrected word/sentence. Just like the old days of typewriters. I know many that would agree that old technology have their aesthetics. But I'm in front of a fleeting scene, I want efficiency and final result not wasting time and going "well, next time I'll get it".
  16. They are not the quickest, but they are the best. Repairs done by an OEM always guarantees the right service and original parts. I know you can purchase the necessary parts to perform repairs at home. But for ease of mind, I suggest you send it to them. Personally, I rather sleep comfortably knowing my gear are in the right hands.
  17. @tonygale How I wish to be part of Kando! Hopefully the next one.
  18. I'm in love with the FE 35mm f/1.4 GM lens. This would be my choice, although I thought of the FE 135mm f/1.8 GM first. I can get close to subjects but it is hard to move away (safely). We'll see if Sony comes out with an update for the 135mm, I might change my mind.
  19. I got a large list of equipment, they're split between travel and sports. But my favorite would be the Sony A7RIV with the FE 35mm f/1.4 GM and FE 135mm f/1.8 GM. I do plan to get the A1 one day, but for now I'm squeezing all the benefits from what I have.
  20. RMalayeri has valid points, and it is necessary to understand the fundamentals of photography and imaging. When someone who is not into photography asks the same question, I would say the perfect images is the one that stirs emotions in a viewer. For example, you want a person in a portrait to have the same feelings when they view their image 20 years from now. That is what I would call a perfect photo.
