  1. Thank you! I setup my gear on a tripod and then use the Sony Imaging Edge app to remotely shoot from a distance/out of sight of the owl. Decent amount of waiting involved. Not being seen helps get these somewhat unique photos because they act like they're on their own.
  2. Got to get out a bit when I didn't have work.
  3. 800/1200 GMs. 1200 is a bit out there, but an offering similar to the 800 5.6 from Canon without just slapping a 2x TC on a 400 would be nice. Maybe even an 800 6.3 like what Nikon is offering. Would just be a cool lens to have in the lineup.
  4. Not sure how many of y'all saw, but a 300GM is finally on the way. 🥳 I know @pm-r already made a video on it. Early 2024 can't come soon enough!
  5. I have experience with both the 1.4x and 2x TCs on both the 200-600 and 70-200II. On the 200-600, forget about it. The loss in resolution is too drastic in my personal opinion, just stick with the 1.4. Now, the 70-200II actually handles it nicely in certain situations. Obviously, you'll see some drop in quality but I've gotten good results with it. The 2x really only works well on the 70-200II, 400GM, and 600GM.
  6. Not sure how everyone else feels, or the problems that come along with this idea, but a Discord server for Sony shooters to converse and share stuff in would be cool. Would make it a lot easier to share quick photos and such, along with bouncing ideas off others quickly. 🤔
  7. Been using strictly this camera over the last couple of weeks, besides for when I need to shoot birds in flight, and it's been mostly excellent! One major flaw, however, is with the autofocus performance when shooting with the Imaging Edge app. The first image in the sequence is always in focus, and then immediately will either front or back focus by a small amount and never correct itself. Yes, AF-C is on. The A1 never had these issues. Example of the issue: https://i.gyazo.com/145e5e8d5e027e91f7329f0a7c6589b4.mp4 Every single sequence tonight was like this. Very unfortunate as this is one of the main reasons I bought the camera in the first place. 400GM was used for all.
  8. Depends on what you want to use it for. I do sports and birds, and just got the RV. First time out in the field with it shooting hawks, owls, etc. I found that the initial grab of a subject is certainly slower than the A1 and can be quite finicky at times. Once it has the subject, though, it's very sticky it seems. 10fps vs 30fps is quite the change, but you can still capture some cool moments. It certainly won't be replacing my A1 with regards to fast action sports or even most birds in flight but it's a joy to use as a second body or as a main body for more still/slower moving subjects. The extra resolution is also fun.
  9. That's all speculation at this point, but I'd look at the A1 and set the bar there. 👀
  10. The 12-24mm GM was my favorite lens for sun stars. I really need to grab another one at some point 😍
  11. Probably has to be this one. Covered in ticks, laying in slightly flooded marsh near the Mississippi River on 2 hours of sleep. Got to photograph this Great Gray Owl for 4 hours straight in an area the size of a normal backyard. Story is what elevates it to the top, I think.
  12. Curious to see what you guys can create with the new pixel shift mode! If the sun would ever come out, I want to try and pixel shift an owl or ten. I think that'd be a cool test.
  13. Adding one to the bag in the next week or so and immediately taking it to the Northwoods for an owling trip. Gonna drop it right into the gauntlet! Should pair well with my A1 as a second body... until the A1ii comes out 👀
  14. Thank you! If I had to choose between the 400 or 600, I'd definitely go with the 600. More often than not you're wanting the 840mm range and the 1.4TC is wonderful attached to the 600. The 400 can get the job done with the 2x but you definitely notice the loss in quality and even some autofocus performance. If you're looking for something between the 2-6G, 1-4GM, or the Sigma and Tamron offerings, I'd definitely go with the 2-6G. It's an excellent lens for the price. I've debated buying another one to have in my bag as a just in case, tbh. 🤔
  15. Thanks, Matt! I love the A1+600 combo to death. It has seen some things over the time of ownership! 😄 I appreciate the help! I might be down there at some point this spring, unsure of where we want to trip yet. Texas, Arizona, Florida, who knows. 🤯 I know Fort De Soto is wild down there!
  16. Hi all! Found this forum a few weeks ago and now that I have a little bit of free time on my hands, I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Matthew Zuro and I'm a sports and wildlife photographer based out of Chicago, Illinois. Mainly shoot for the Chicago Dogs in Rosemont, IL during the summer and fill-in whenever a friend needs some help for an event in the off-season. Otherwise, I'm basically out daily exploring the Great Lakes looking for any avian creature to photograph. It'd be awesome to eventually work with Sony in some way possible in the future, maybe as an Artisan. 👀 I bounce between gear quite often, but always have at least one #Alpha 1 (Alpha1) in the rotation, along with a couple staple lenses like the #FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS and #FE 600mm F4 GM. Recently, I have taken quite the liking to the #FE 50mm F1.2 GM and plan on making that a permanent keeper with the teleprimes... it's just too good! Planning to add the RV to the arsenal here soon, just need some Adobe support before I pull the trigger. First impressions so far, I'm quite surprised as the lack of bird imagery on this forum as Facebook is completely loaded with Sony shooters and birds! Maybe I can be the change.. I look forward to posting and seeing additional posts from current and new members in the coming months. If you're at all curious, you can find me on Instagram at @Zurotography.
