  1. At the end of 2023, I lost 4TB photos containing my Svalbard, Uzbekistan, and Japan photos..... So for 2024, I'll finally be putting more effort and resources towards establishing a series of redundancies. Including a NVMe storage array and include cloud storage as part of my process. From a photography perspective, I want to improve in technique with lighting.
  2. beautiful photo @CarolineJensen Thanks for sharing these tips! I've always wanted to try doing more B&W photos.
  3. The photos are amazing! 😍 I love seeing each photographer's style through their vision and effort. Regardless of what others might think, a photo is meaningful if its a meaningful to the photographer. If someone finds joy through your photos and work, its a nice bonus πŸ™‚
  4. That is so cool, PM-R! That sounds like an awesome workshop! Hope 2024 is an amazing year! I read rumors for a 24-200mm f2.8-4.5 lens, hope that gets released!
  5. I use adobe photoshop and lighroom. the new generative AI fill is amazing! It speeds up the editing workflow alot!
  6. I agree with Tony's recommendation. I used the a7III and 70-200 f4 as my first wildlife combo and it was great! The other option I would consider is the a7III, 70-200 f2.8 first gen, and the 2.0x Teleconverter just in case for the extra reach.
  7. I was traveling through Egypt and met Muhammad, a temple caretaker at Kom Ombo Temple, taking a rest and I asked if I could take a photo of him. Taken with Sony a1, 24-70mm f2.8
  8. I think lighting is always a challenge and the ISO. I am a pixel peeper so noise bothers me lol. I am also too slow to react to fast moving objects/animals. Hope the a1ii will have the pre-capture like the a9iii πŸ™‚

Hi Pola! Congratulations on getting that nice lens and nice shot. I've only taken a few milky way shots myself, but some things I found helpful was: From a photography standpoint: Find the darkest place possible. I find that building and city lights can add light pollution. Keep your aperture wide open Test out different shutter times. With a wide aperture like f1.8 you will not need long shutter times. There is an app called Photo Pills that can help you find the best shutter exposure duration for your camera and lens. Test out different ISO levels. Use a tripod and hope there are no vibrations or wind around the tripod From a post processing standpoint: Lightroom or other editing software can help correct lighting and colors. You can test modifying exposure and color settings. I did a quick edit of your photo attached.
  10. Thank you for the spotlight. I am grateful to be a part of this awesome community!
  11. I've only done 2 prints so far. A ~5'x3' and a small 12"x12". I would like to do more prints but not enough space. The big one was when I went to Paradise Bay, Antarctica and the small one is of the chinstrap penguin and chick.
  12. The a9III is drool worthy 🀀 Global shutter 120fps flicker-free/no bands flash sync at all shutter speeds 1/80,000 sec. AF up to -5.0 ev with a f/1.8 lens pre-capture recording!!!
  13. Update: Sony announced an a1 firmware update: From DP Review:
  14. Hope we can get a Creative Space in San Jose, California someday β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘
  15. Very cool! Thank you for sharing! I am heading there in 2024.
  16. I get what you're saying. However, Sony isn't Canon/Nikon/or any other camera company. When you buy a Sony a1 or any other Sony model, you are paying for the features in that camera at the time of release. There is no entitlement or promise that you'll receive updates for a # of years. From a technical standpoint, firmware updates are meant to fix flaws and bugs in a product. If a company needs to continuously release firmware updates, that means they built and previously released a bad quality product. The fact that the a1 hasn't released many firmware updates, means the quality is pretty decent. However, according to Sony Alpha Rumors supposedly there is an a1 firmware in the works because of the complaints of lack of feature updates, so we may be in luck! I would hope that Sony doesn't become like other camera brands. They must be doing something right, which is the reason companies like Apple, Google, Fujifilm, Nikon, and even Hasselblad use Sony sensors for their cameras and why they have 42% market share of the camera sensor market.
  17. I'm heading to Japan in November. Planning on going to capture the Snow Monkey's so I'm gonna probably bring the 24-70mm f2.8 and the 70-200mm f2.8
  18. I think your Tamron is a perfect choice! When I travel light, I'll also add-on a wide angle lens. Overall it depends on your focus of what you want to capture.
  19. I am always passionate about learning to improve my photography skills, learn about new gear, techniques, and network with other photographers. Are there any photography conferences/events that you've been to that you would recommend? So far I've only been to BH Photo Video's Optic West 2022 and it was amazing!
  20. Very cool! Maybe Urban Street? Urban Art?
  21. I think that is a very good setup! If you wanted to go lighter, I would leave the a7RIII and 70-200GM at home. Always nice to have the 70-200mm though if you don't mind the weight and space in your baggage
  22. With technology advancements today, photography has become a commodity. Everyone can be a photographer now. Its been simplified to require less skill. In some ways the AI and processing in smartphones produces high quality results faster than humans can. Smartphones can also shoot RAW now as well. The art of photography is dying/evolving depending on your viewpoint. I think it is important now more than ever to revisit the reason and purpose why we do photography. My parents would always complain that I spend money on traveling and photography. They would always say, "Why don't you just google search for the image?" lol and I would always say, "It's not the same!" For me it has always been about capturing my own memories and experiences and the way I see and perceive things. Until AI can copy my brain and how I think, I'll still be doing my photography and capturing memories. It is from these memories that I can tell stories. Hope I can have a family someday and tell my children and grand children the adventures I went on πŸ™‚
