  1. Hi Mike, I have OM System EE-1 Dot Sight I coupled this with a Sony to Canon Hot shoe Adapter. The set up works well. i am still getting used to using it so wouldn’t like to advise either way. I’ve met a few people who swear by dot finders. Others who had tried to use them had formed habits using the viewfinder, they couldn’t get used to it. As bird photography was new to me I decided it would be worth it as i was all over the place! There is a large birding community on Alpha Shooters.com you might find asking the question there will get a better response.
  2. Hi Brian, What is your reason for having the filter? I don't think you will get a definitive answer on this other than putting anything in front of the lens may degrade the image. To what extent will depend on the quality of filter. If it was me I would always use the lens hood, if I were shooting in a sandy or gritty environment I would use the filter to protect the lens glass, additionally I would wrap the lens and camera body too.
  3. I had the battery drain issue. The following proceedure was recommended on AlphaShooters.com and solved the issue. Turn the camera off and remove the battery. Let the camera sit powered off and untouched for one minute. Turn the camera to the on position without the battery inserted and hold the shutter down for 30 seconds. Turn the camera to the off position. Reinsert the battery and power the camera on. Hope this helps.
  4. I've not had time to test with BIF yet. For the battery drain problem please see below. This solved the problem for my A1 and for others with the issue. Turn the camera off and remove the battery. Let the camera sit powered off and untouched for one minute. Turn the camera to the on position without the battery inserted and hold the shutter down for 30 seconds. Turn the camera to the off position. Reinsert the battery and power the camera on. Good luck.
