Mover & Shaker

Mover & Shaker (3/9)

  1. This is from a lake which is a short walk from my house here in Colorado. My pup and I walk around the lake at least a few times each week, paddle a kayak or sup a few times a month. The spring and fall have migrating birds galore. In spring, the osprey set up their nest and start rearing their babies. Summertime sees the white pelicans arrive and the osprey raising their young. Herons and gulls, bald eagles and red tailed hawks, and prairie dogs all around the fields surrounding the lake. Shore birds like sandpipers and many killdeer. The sunsets are always beautiful with the Rocky Mountains in the background (to the west).
  2. I went camping in medicine bow, wyoming to try astro photography for the first time. This is a single image from that night. I used an a7rv and a 17-28mm lens @ 17mm. I went there after searching on lightpollution.com to find the darkest place within a few hours of my home (Longmont, CO). I took many frames and have tried to stack them but haven't been satisfied with any end products as of yet. I used photopills for planning.
  3. Last week I enjoyed a couple of beautiful hours on a local lake here on the front range of Colorado.
  4. Shimoda Action backpacks are perfect for this. the bottom uses a core unit for your camera gear and an expandable roll top unit for stuff....rain coat, tarp, puffy, coffee gear. Although I am pretty coffee geeky (roast my own coffee) I will grind my beans at home... for a day hike. My good grinder is more uniform than my hand grinder. I use an aeropress and 3d printed a container that fits in plunger for coffee and a unit that attaches to filter that holds extra filters... so the whole setup is very light and compact. titanium cup/pot for boiling water and msr pocket rocket. small can of butane.
  5. It's difficult to choose a favorite pic, but I like this one for the eye contact.
  6. Here are some of my first macros and a daytime moon shot. I enjoy the vibrant colors.
