My first Sony Alpha camera was the a850, it was a great camera. That said, once the a7RII came out, I was all in on mirrorless. Except for the nostalgia, I would go with mirrorless.
While the DSLRs are great, it's probably best to steer clear of them since they're no longer in production. Mirrorless is the future for sure. That doesn't mean you still can't get great photos from the DSLRs though. I'm sure there are lots of great deals out there if that's what you're looking for.
