My vlogs aren’t necessarily the highest performing videos on my YouTube channel, but I still like making them. Assuming we’re all in the filmmaking/photography space, what type of vlogs interest you?

This is my last week of work before I take some time off for the holidays. I've got some new gear that I'd LOVE to play with during the break, but I also don't want that to take away time from my family. At the same time, I love looking back at vlogs featuring my family because it's like reliving the moment. Ahhh! Maybe a little bit of both? Haha. Y'all taking a break for the holidays???

I tried to make a vlog yesterday, but wasn't really happy with the footage. I think I'm still hanging on to making my vlogs look "cinematic" haha. Maybe I should just post the crappy footage for the vlog anyway? I guess that what's vlogs are all about - capturing the moment despite the quality of the footage. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else feels the same.

I LOVE THE SONY ZV-1! I use it all the time in my studio as a top down shot for unboxing videos. It's also a great complimentary camera to my full-frame bodies whenever I travel. I have a setup guide on the camera if you wanna watch it:

What's the right amount of gear to bring with you on a daily basis? One camera? Two cameras? Five lenses? I think I have way too much camera gear in my bag, and I want to stick to just the essentials (including snacks). Curious to see how much gear you all have in your camera bag!

That's me all the time!! I always feel like I need to capture something epic but I'm trying to remind myself that personality and excitement also helps to draw viewers in too so trying to find that balance.
Yep, and you have one of the best personalities out there on YouTube!

Remember when vlogs had to look cinematic and epic? Yeah, I don't wanna do that anymore haha. I almost just wanna vlog with whatever camera I have and capture my day, even if I don't make a YouTube video about it. What do y'all think about this?

Totally agree. Sometimes I feel there's pressure to vlog and make it look "cinematic" but I wanna stop that and just vlog for me (even if I don't make it public). Almost like a video journal.

I've been working on a MotoPat Vlog series. I'm still adjusting the gear I'm going to be using but I'm already 6 episodes in as I ride around on two different motorcycles on in two parts of the country... it's been fun trying to figure it all out. I started with the ZVE10 but have now moved to the a7C with three lenses.
The A7C is a great camera especially with those lenses!

Vlogging is great! I'm starting a new series for a production I'm working on called "Project Preservation" aimed at protecting in-danger of disappearing landscapes - I'm really excited to launch it later next year. What kind of stories are you looking to vlog about yourself?

It seems like vlogs are making a comeback lately, and I am here for it! I guess it makes sense after being stuck in our homes for a while, people are wanting to explore the world and do exciting things again. I know for me, I will be vlogging more because I have some exciting projects to share! I might even make some videos about some new camera gear I recently acquired 😉
Anyway, I really think people should vlog more in 2023 because people's stories are worth sharing. With that said, what are YOU going to vlog about next year?

What do you think other people think of influencers traveling everywhere, reviewing new products, and all the other things that influencers do? Do you think vlogs have become more of a flex, or is it just purely documenting our lives? Curious to know your thoughts!
