  1. I'm not sure how I missed out on using the FX6 but it was a magical first-time encounter with it when I used it this week! I was really impressed with how beautiful the codec looks (it's an actual MXF file and not a long-gop H.265 which I didn't know it had!). In love with the variable ND's as well - makes shooting in any environment a dream, especially if you like shooting wide open at like F1.2.

What are some of your favorite aspects of the FX6?

  2. One thing I've found out (as I get older, ha) is that it's much harder to do a single-person setup with reliable lighting, focus and composition. I was really impressed with the new ZV-E1 and how (indoors) you can use it to VLOG yourself but I'm curious what everyone else's setup are for YouTube, IG/TT/FB. Do you just use a tripod, camera, and auto-focusing hoping you capture a solid frame or do you tend to hire others or ask friends to help on productions?

  3. The ZV-E1 just launched and when I first got my hands on it I didn't expect to fall in love with it as I have. If you're an A7S3 or FX3 user you'll basically find yourself with the same camera you've had before BUT there are far more features that make this one even better for video shooters. The new AF tracking, AI recomposition, timelapse mode, product AF mode, and new audio setup make this one heck of a great vlogging camera as well as a B-cam for main unit productions!!

What are your thoughts on the new camera?

  4. Ooooo I'm definitely picking one up! While it lacks some features (like the viewfinder) for an A-Cam this is the PERFECT vlogging/B-cam that pairs identically with the A7S3 and FX3.

  5. Oooo that's a new one. Definitely a flaw or a defect, however, I don't believe it would cause anything bad to happen technically (like lack of weather sealing) - just looks off. You can always contact Sony Pro Support though if you're a member and have them look at it.

  6. I've been shooting on the A7SIII and A1 for what seems to be the last 2+ years exclusively and I've been using the CFexpress A cards for a lot of my work, but I'm wondering if the CFexpress cards are overkill (since I only really need them when shooting S-I 4k 120p and 1080 240p footage.

Does anyone just use regular SD cards for their cameras? And if so, what's the benefit for you?

  7. Hi, Drew,

I hope it's okay to drop in some photos in your thread.

I often walk before dawn - my favourite time of day (but not great for photographs). This is from a couple of days ago.

As the sun was just about to rise

At about the same time, facing the opposite direction you could see that pre-dawn light reflected in the buildings

These are fantastic!! Well done mate!

  8. I'm sure (or at least I hope) at some point Sony will implement a lot of updates for their flagship cameras because it's something that definitely needs to happen. That being said, some of the features you'll find on the newer cameras like the A7RV are only possible because of the additional AI processor which no other Sony camera has yet so those features will only be native to that body for now.

  9. Had the pleasure of waking up around 30 minutes before sunrise to be greeted by some of the most spectacular colors I've seen in a long time here in Virginia! How many of you are an early bird and how many of you despise waking up early to catch the light? I'm usually a sunset-only kind of guy but I've recently found myself doing the opposite!

  10. Welcome to the club and the party! You can't go wrong with any of the a6000 series cameras (if you want a crop sensor) but the A7IV or A7RV might be your best bang for your buck 🙂 Glad you have you!
