  1. Hi Jessica, This is so cool. I haven't taken many flower photos, and it's not the best season for outdoor plants yet, but I have a few pictures I thought could fit the brief. I went for a walk at a conservation area over the weekend, and I thought these pictures felt moody. The plants in the first photo are a bit underexposed, but I like the contrast of the darks and lights in the picture. I definitely feel vulnerable with my composition around landscapes and flowers. I feel like I tend to try to stuff the image and fill the frame with the subject, and I would love to practice nature and floral photography more this year πŸ™‚
  2. Hi Jessica, It's nice to meet you! Thanks so much ☺️
  3. Hi Alpha Universe folks, My name is Andrew Neary, and I'm a journalism student in Ontario, Canada. I started taking photos with a DSLR two years ago, and I've loved it ever since. I have so much to learn, but I'm loving the process and discovering the styles and stories I can share. Last month, I had the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and work with Indigenous Mayan high school students in mountain communities to share stories important to them and learn together. In Canada, I've done some photojournalism as well as some wedding, corporate event, and birthday photo shoots. I'm excited to be more active here and learn alongside the talented folks on this forum. It's nice to meet you!
  4. That makes a lot of sense. I'm emailing my local conservation authority now! Excellent points. Thank you 😊
  5. What would you say to someone interested in starting conservation photography? Could you speak a bit to the storytelling that may be involved?
  6. I've seen some folks suggest shooting people's reactions to the eclipse rather than shooting the eclipse itself if you don't have a solar filter. How do you feel about unique/alternate approaches to eclipse photography?
  7. This is so cool. Thank you for sharing. I would love to apply to grow a project I was part of in Guatemala last month. Would you have any suggestions for applications that combine conservation and education? From the past eight months of working on the project, I have built relationships with the communities we worked with, which seems like it could help. Are there any suggestions you would have for someone applying in my position?

  13. Hi All, These photos are incredible and inspiring. I'm not sure this is the right feel for this thread, but I took a photo of a duck in Guatemala at golden hour that I loved, and I wanted to share.
  14. I've only been at this for about two years, but so far I've used Photoshop, Lightroom and Capture One, and I've played around a bit with Sony Imaging Edge. I gravitate towards Lightroom because I find it fast and responsive on my Macbook, and I like the results. These programs are pretty intuitive, so I think it mostly comes down to personal preference and how much you plan to use the advanced AI features - plus the Adobe tablet apps are incredible. Lightroom AI denoise has been all I've needed or wanted so far, so it's where I'm at for the most part. Enjoy making beautiful photos πŸ˜„
  15. Thanks for the suggestion πŸ™‚ This looks like a great option.
  16. I love the colour and use of frames within the composition.
  17. Hey Universe members, I'm a student in a photography program in Ontario, Canada, and I'm hoping to switch to Sony and start freelance photography while I study. There are a few local businesses and real estate agents that I would love to do commercial photography for. Our program lets us borrow Canon cameras, and I have a Nikon D3200 that's about a decade old. I'm looking to focus on photography, but I'd like the option to take some video. I am interested in something mirrorless and full-frame, but I am a bit stuck on the right camera to use getting started. I keep eyeing the Alpha 7R V, but I was told it would be overkill. I'd love any and all suggestions. All the best, Andrew
