  1. It all depends on your budget, if it was me I would go get Sony a7c for $1800, or used for under $1500, 24 megapixel is plenty and you will need to get at least one good lens, also keep in mind picture size on the Sony R line is huge when shooting RAW, so you will need more hard drive space

  2. Switched over from Canon Joey - looking back I more than made the right choice!

I have 2 friends shooting with Nikon and I used to use there camera to see if I missed anything, I'm more than happy with the choice of being a Sony shooter

  3. The ECM-B10 is my favorite on-camera mic. The sound quality is honestly super rich and pleasing to the ear for the size and range of the mic. It's my go-to for run and guns. You can pick it up here.

Thank you Drew, I’ve had my eye on it for a while, do you know if it’s worth it to get the more expensive one?

  4. Hi Joey - I quit printing at home and have all my work printed via BayPhotoLab.com. I was tired of wasting ink as I don't print all that often at home - spent more time blowing out the heads 🙂

Thank you Don, will check it out

  5. Hello Alpha Universe,

How often you print your work, and which printer you use?

I use Canon Pixma iX6820, to be honest it’s great printer and can do up to 13x19 and the aftermarket ink is very cheap.

  6. I’m actually trying to solve this myself. I’m planning to do a video soon on my audio solutions. I just bought the ECM-B10, but I also have the Sennheiser MKE400, and the DJI wireless microphones, but also I feel like the on board audio mics of the A7IV are also perfectly good to use for vlogging too since it’s the same one they used in the ZV1, and vloggers just throw that windscreen on top and vlog with it all the time. So I’ll do a comparison between all four, outdoors quiet, outdoors noisy, and indoors with echoes.

This sounds good, drop the link to the video when it’s published

  7. Hey Joey - my first Sony was a7R - used it on a workshop I taught in Grand Teton NP. I was hooked with the dynamic range and never looked back - it was adios Canon!

Hi Don, that was a great camera, the R is every photographers dream, can't believe how far cameras came alone since

  8. Hello Alpha Universe,

I really enjoy being part of the Alpha Universe and part of the creative community, but it's a little inconvenient it's only working in web and there is no Mobile Application for it, is it posable to see a Mobile App in the near future?

  9. Hello Alpha Universe,

I've been using Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 it's a great lens, was wondering if anyone used the Sigma and the Sony GM and can tell whats the deference and if it's worth the extra money?

  10. I don't know if this would be considered a feature, but lens selection is what I want to go with. There is something for all skill levels and budgets.

It's the best thing about Sony, and with A7RV you can use the APS-C lenses with 26 megapixel, the sky is the limit

  11. I like the idea of shooting macro with a wide lens. How will you get close enough - extension tubes? I used to use a 24mm tilt shift lens to do close up work and extend my depth of field, or eliminate it. You may want to look into this option.

I’ve been considering getting a tilt shift lens, any recommendations?

  12. I am having so much fun reframing how I shoot and why. Here is one I just made today with daffodils that my daughter gave me for Valentine's Day. Daffodils are the birth month flower for March, so it might make a nice gift to someone who has a birthday then, engraved with a personal message on the back. 🙂

Very beautiful work, never did wide macro but it looks like fun, keep up the good work

  13. You need to do work on your own and personal work to create a body of photos that represent your style and look. You can do this on your own and keep it separate from your 'business' side. It is a bad precedent to work for free.

I’m not saying put on your website that you work for free, but to work with friends and family members and some TFP on the side, the issue I faced with wedding they always ask to see your work, if you never shot a wedding you have nothing to show, and if you have nothing to show you will not get hired to do a wedding, so doing some second shooter and build some portfolio help getting more jobs

  14. I think that working for free really depends on how much it benefits you. A portfolio is a must, so getting that is necessary, one way or another. I don't think shooting for free is terrible. You just have to make  sure that your free offerings don't trickle into the rest of your career! I still get people who want free shoots because I gave them free shoots ten years ago. 🙂

I agree that the ones you will do the free photoshoot to will ask for free ones in the future, but it’s a good way to start and practice, no matter how much videos you watch about photography nothing like go out and shoot, and agree once you build a portfolio, you need to charge enough to cover your equipment and shooting time and editing time
