  1. Focus. My Canon system was terrible with focus, no matter what I did or upgrades I invested in...it just was not reliable. My A7R2 is amazing with focus and has made such a difference in my image quality.
  2. Whoah, these are just amazing! The amount of detail and clarity is mind boggling. I also love that you can crop in so much after the fact. I am so tempted by your A7RV!
  3. Thank you! Yes, I grow my own flowers. 🙂 I spent all yesterday digging up my dahlia tubers for next year. I work with an art licensing agent as well as selling fine art prints.
  4. The 600mm is epic and full of drama but I love the 200mm so that I can take in the whole mountain range. Just gorgeous!
  5. @bmcdonough insect eye autofocus!? That is so very cool! I wish they had a flower eye AF, I would be hooked up. 🙂
  6. Do you have a video posted somewhere that I could listen to the sound quality? I think the audio is what keeps me from filming...and just a lack of a nice space. My basement is quite dungeon like. 🙂
  7. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on AI for image making and how it will effect the photography industry. I have noticed a lot of ai generated images on IG that are not labeled as ai, sometimes they even use photography hashtags and it makes my eye twitch. 🙂 Now, with Adobe introducing major Ai tech right into Photoshop (as well as Adobe Firefly) it looks like it will be here to stay. I am on the fence with how I feel about it. It is an amazing technology but it could make so many photography careers obsolete.
  8. Art Wolfe was one of mine as well, I still have his books that I bought with my babysitting money in the early 90s.
  9. I love this question! The most inspirational for me were, Art Wolfe, John Shaw and Jim Zuckerman. They are nature photographers that got me hooked on photography back in my middle-school years. My Grandpa was a photographer in the Navy during World War 2 and he was my biggest inspiration and really encouraged me to pick up a camera as a kid. Bill Gekas's earlier portrait work was a big inspiration as well and got me interested in using paintings of the Old masters as my major inspiration.
  10. Yes, it was. I love creating my own light. 🙂 I used a Flashpoint Streaklight 360 with either a APollo Orb or a small diffused beauty dish, I hop between those two modifiers quite a bit.
  11. June was Peony season for me, one of my favorite times of the year. Peonies have a very short time to bloom and I spent hours everyday shooting in order to make the most of it. @bmcdonough the heat was intense yesterday for sure! We had a advisory as well.
  12. If I'm dreaming, I would like to upgrade to the A7RV and I would love a camera just for filming videos like the Sony ZV-E1.
  13. Like @Drew_Geraci, I was with Canon for a decade before switching to Sony. I considered switching for YEARS but I was so invested in Canon gear I just couldn't get myself to do it. In 2019 finally switched to Sony after talking to @CarolineJensen . I only wished I had done it earlier! My focus issues (and they were many) disappeared over night.
  14. Before switching to Sony I had all Canon gear, I still have a ton of their lenses and an adaptor to use them with my Sony body. I did purchase a Sony 55mm lens and I use that 90% of the time, the focus is crazy good and my other lenses are so soft and unreliable. I really should see if I can sell them off or trade them for more Sony lenses!
  15. I wish I could hire someone, I find it very challenging to video myself at work. My lighting in my basement is terrible and the sound quality is pretty bad due to sharing the space with our heater/AC unit.
  16. I love the color combo and insane detail of that last shot. They are all lovely!
  17. I think I like the contrast of the first image but also teh muted tones of the second. 🙂
  18. Those are lovely, Drew. I think your created light is so subtle and merges perfectly with the natural light. I have an older Flashpoint streaklight 360 that I like to take on location. It is a great all around light.
  19. I generally work in a studio so any time of day that my kids are busy is my favorite. If I am outside...probably later afternoon.
  20. I love working with all those rules and I love breaking all those rules. 🙂 I think leading lines is what I admire most in others.
  21. We lived in Anacortes, WA. for a (wonderful) year and I loved that whole area. This is from the Skagit Valley during the big tulip festival. I dream of getting back there to stay at some point in my life. 🙂
