  1. Fantastic work. I'd have probably left some shots out, as without enough cloud movement, they're not as interesting. You've created so many amazing shots, especially the holy grail and full sunset-night-sunrise shots. Great detail in the shadows in the night shots. There was a bit of flicker which could have just been the streaming codec. Sound effects (swoosh) were sometimes distracting, and some shots could use some stabilization. But really, really fantastic work. I'd love to put my Edelkrone to work even more, once we get into Milky Way season.
  2. Shooting stars captured with real time, 24fps 4K video from the Kohala coast of Hawaii’s Big Island during the peak night of the 2020 meteor shower. Fellow filmmaker, Lance Page and I stayed up all night filming this meteor shower in ProRes Raw using 3x Sony A7SIII's and Ninja V recorders to get the raw signal. The meteor shower was more sparse than we expected, but still made for an interesting adventure. 3. A recent personal project of mine, documenting some of the most recent volcanic activity at Hawai'i's Kilauea Volcano, near my home. We were able to document much of the Mauna Loa eruption, and will be releasing a short documentary soon. Shot on the Sony FX3, Sony A7SIII, Sony A7IV, Sony 200-600 G, and Sony 16-35 GM. https://vimeo.com/787098997
  4. I don't do much product video, but I'd suggest something with as much of a close focus range as possible. The Batis 40mm seems to be popular in that field. The Sony 90mm Macro is another option. Otherwise, you could use extension tubes on anything you've got, to reduce the minimum focal distance.
  5. Nice! I'm with the FX6 and FX3 duo, with an A7IV as a C-Cam. My only gripes with the FX6 are that there's no Long-GOP 4K 10-bit option. I have to record externally for that. And, the variable ND doesn't work outdoors with a CPL. I'm looking forward to upgrading to one of those carbon Schatler tripods one day!
  6. I've been a full time video creator + photographer for the past 4 years. I started out with Final Cut and moved over to Premiere. My thinking was that Premiere was more powerful. It does do many things better, like stabilization and audio mixing. But, when first getting the Sony A7SIII, Premiere would crash my entire (Mac) computer when editing the 10-bit footage. I had similar issues with Premiere on Windows. So, I tried Final Cut again. After doing many projects in Premiere, I realized the strengths in Final Cut. It's far faster than any other NLE for basic editing, which is 95% of what I do as a solo creator. I later bought Resolve and found it to be far and away the best for color correction and grading. But, again, it's no where near as fast as Final Cut.
  7. I look forward to the day I can upgrade to the Airpeak for my aerial shots!
  8. I have and love the 24-105 G. While it's versatile, it's also a bit big for 'walking around'. For a quick and easy walking around lens, I'd go with the 40G or 50G EF pancake lenses.
  9. I'm using the A7SIII for astro and night sky images, as well as video timelapses at dusk. Its ISO range is the best. The FX3 is my 'other' more video centric camera, but I'm realizing it might be my go-to for everything, including night sky photography. There's a time when I want/need the EVF, but most of the time I just need a good LCD or external monitor.
  10. Lovely writeup! I also use a Ready-Rig like Andy for most of my work. Though, I recently also got a Segway Mini with off road wheels for some smooth movement along distances. I think Andy covered much of the tips I'd suggest, but I'd add to use CPL's when in full sun to reduce glare.
  11. It depends on whether I need to use the hood, and how many different filter thread sizes I have between my lenses. Fortunately, between all of my lenses, I mostly have 82mm and 77mm. So, I have bought separate CPL's for those two filter thread sizes. The one oddball is the 50mm GM, which I use step up rings for.

It's odd, but I've found with every Sony mirrorless camera, the Temp setting NEEDS to be set to 'High'.... even the FX3 with built in fan will overheat eventually.
  13. I used to shoot regular 60-120fps with audio, but I'd be changing the speed of every clip for the benefit of saving audio I rarely used. And, reviewing a clip that I was going to slow down anyway, it would only play back in real time in camera. So, these days I tend to shoot 120fps S&Q in camera. It's fantastic, as I can check my shots in camera. Only issue I've noticed is that the FX3 does NOT play back with a monitoring LUT. So, despite being able to record with a monitoring LUT, playback in camera will still be in Log.
  14. I was JUST thinking about this. Social media is an odd animal. It seems to me like a lot of people follow others because they want to live the life the influencers are living. But how long does that last before we realize that influencer is propped up, flown around the world, all to sell something? At some point you have to realize it's a very niche role, very, very few people will get to live. I mean, how many people end up at the Sony camps... like 40-50 tops? That's out of millions. At some point, I think people realize that the influencer lifestyle is out of reach, and they stop paying attention to influencers... UNLESS those influencers have more to share than 'inspirational' lifestyle imagery. They have to have educational content. But here's the issue... the two are in conflict. If you're 'selling' products, you can't be objective. If you're trying to educate people about products, skills, etc... you have to be objective. But then where's the money, the influence, the popularity? I know of only a couple people I follow who seem to be doing it right... Philip Bloom and Gerald Undone.
  15. I just bought the FX6 and am having a great time getting to know the camera.Compared to the FX3/A7SIII, it's fantastic having a REAL info-display SDI/HDMI output... not that cropped stuff from the FX3/A7SIII. I'm only finding a couple issues with it, one that there is NO ⅛" audio input, where the FX3 and XLR-K3M both have it. (why wasn't it added to the FX6?) The other thing, and I'm VERY disappointed about this... The FX3 and A7SIII have more recording options! On the FX3/A7SIII, I can record H.265/H.264 Long-GOP UHD in 10-bit. On the FX6, if I want to shoot UHD Long-GOP, I can only do so in 8-bit!? There's no reason the FX6 shouldn't have a Long GOP UHD 10-bit recording option. Right? My question for anyone "in the know"...Will this be added in a firmware update soon? If not, I'll sadly but likely be returning the FX6. Thank you,Sky
