  1. That is a great way to do it and seemingly getting more and more practical Tony. PMR is doing it with sports!
  2. My choice would have the be the Sony 14mm f/1.8 GM. I purchased it for my night work but I find myself using it when I have a close foreground that extends to infinity. Most lenses perform best stopped-down for astro work but I don't hesitate shooting this lens wide open - tack sharp!
  3. Love your long exposure work Thibault. As you have proven, they work great with black-and-white...

Beautiful light Poojan, I also really liked how you found a foreground element (boat) to add a sense of depth to the scene. Well done!
  5. As a native Californian I need to do a bit of traveling to find good lightning opportunities. Grand Canyon National Park is one of those great locations that during the monsoon season (mid-June - mid September) can offer a lot of opportunities for lightning. I captured this frame with my Sony a7RIV + The Lightning Trigger IV (best trigger I have used). The key is to track the cells and most importantly, stay safe. It helps to have a polarizer on your lens (I used the Sony 24-70mm GM) and frame an area where you see rain curtains. I dropped my ISO to 50 and set my aperture at f/16 to allow a 1/4th sec shutter. Sonys' are awesome as they have some of the fastest shutter lag times of any camera on the market. Let me know if you have any questions.
  6. Oftentimes I am drawn to the softer side of landscape photography. Vibrant sunrises and sunsets are great and play well on social media, but there is so much more in the landscape with which we can create art. This simple Mountain Sage can be found everywhere in the White Mountains above Bishop, California. I spent a week in July photographing the Ancient Bristlecone Pines and spotted this on a hike growing out of a crack of algae-covered black granite. I had a soft stormy sky so the light was perfect. I love to just wander and see what draws my attention. This was a whisper saying, "hey, look at me." Does this type of photography call out to you? Open your heart and mind and see feel the landscape. There are endless images just waiting to be discovered. Would love to hear your thoughts.
  7. Thank you Tony - was great seeing you again and meeting your family.
  8. This is my 4th Kando and all were great, but this one IMO was the best thus far. Sony just keeps outdoing what has been done in the past. A huge thank you to all who put this together. Was so awesome to see all of my fellow Sony creatives and employees of Sony Imaging!
  9. Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Don Smith and I have been a professional sports and landscape photographer for the past 40+ years of my career. I started working for newspapers as a general photojournalist then gravitated towards sports where I worked for publications such as Sports Illustrated and Inside Sports Magazine. I spent 28 years as co-team photographer with the San Jose Sharks and as a contract photographer for the NBA. All the while, landscape photography was my other passion and I eventually started teaching workshops with former Artisan @Gary Hart 15 years ago. I now teach around the world and now dedicate 100% of my my time towards this passion. Both my sports and landscape work is represented by Getty Images. I'm excited to be a part of these forums and I am willing to share my many years of knowledge. Times have changed dramatically but one constant remains - great imagery.
