  1. I don't think my wife would like that I'm reading and discussing what lenses are needed for basketball 😅. Those 2 lenses are the ones that I don't have and would love to get.
  2. Thank you Caroline. It looks interesting. It seems it will be doing a similar job of a couple of current apps (Image Edge and Tag&Transfer). I hope you are right @IraBlock, I gave up on that app a long time ago. I have some wishes for a workflow app, and if this creative cloud app would give me what I need, I could upgrade our process at the university newspaper.
  3. X-rays will affect the chemical composition of the film. It will not render it useless, but it will shift the colors drastically based on the film type. Same thing goes for the Syntax photo papers. Just take them out and hand them to the security officers and tell them this is film. They will not destroy them and they will check them properly. Unless you get that one person that was living in a cave and never seen a film before.
  4. I honestly only heard of something like that for another brand. Is there a link to the announcement?
  5. I use Peak Design anchors to carry my gear. I have one attached to the lens' shoe mount (there are multiple places to attach). The other end goes on my camera and I adjust the lens' collar to carry the set while the lens points down securely.
  6. This is wonderful! And you got it at the highlands, top place on my bucket list.
  7. Thank you! That helped a lot. I'm waiting for filters to be restocked and have made a rough plan. Only issue I've found is that I cannot leave home to get the full eclipse, so I have to accept a partial one (85-90%). Which is very good for my first time. I have a far fetched idea, since I don't have a modified camera. I would love to capture landscape shots of IR only and UV only captured landscape. I might write that on my bucket list.
  8. Honestly,, just post them. There is no rule or belief that older images lose their beauty. I have some images that I shot in japan in 2013 that I posted in 2021. I take pride in what I have achieved with little knowledge of photography at that time. Of course some shots are very lucky, nonetheless, It was I who decided that it will be a nice image to capture. Don't let those feelings stop you. Post your images and celebrate your work from all chapters of your photography journey.
  9. It can never be stopped. Dealing with theft from other countries is near impossible to resolve, but it is possible to sue in your own country (I'm generalizing a little). Even though it is easy to prove theft, it is hard to go after them and sometimes a waste of money and time. That being said, there is a process that I will be following to reduce or eliminate social media theft. Basically, I will not post any images that I intend to sell. I've made a decision to only post work that I rate as 2 or 3 stars, while 4 stars will be only available on my future website for sale. And of course 5 starts is my portfolio and maybe two to five prints in existence.
  10. My back spasmed just reading this. The issue I'm still thinking of is when having to go out and take images, what to bring and how to carry them. I'm still working this out and last week experimented with a backpack. My body was sore for 2 days. A sling will be my next test.
  11. I import all my images through photomechanics, this gets the metadata out of the way. I edit in lightroom and capture one, depending on the assignment. Presets are handy for group of images. It takes time to create ones you like for specific type of work, but they are worth the effort. Try this workflow if it helps: - rate images that you like from 3 to 5 stars. - apply presets to all (3 stars are done) - do some minor tweaks here and there (4 stars are done) - do great work of 5 stars. -post. With proper culling, assuming you start with 500 images, you should end with 25-3stars, 10-4stars, 1- or 2-5stars. This is only a suggestion, see if it can help ease your process. -
  12. That will depend on the strength of the effect you're looking for. But from what I've seen, many recommend using the 1/8. If you know someone who has either or both of them, ask to test them and see which you'd like.
  13. I see the issue you're talking about and I understand your frustration. I haven't used this lens yet, and I also never had this issue with any of my lens and bodies. But the pattern looks like Moiré. Usually cameras would have a filter to clear that, and some post-processing softwares can take care of it. It also would appear on an image if you zoom out and disappears when you zoom in. But besides the explanations and to be on the safe side, try a controlled experiment. You the lens/body combo to recreate this "issue", try it again with different combos to see if it appears. Also, burrow the same lens/body and try the experiment. If it is only persistent on the original body/lens combo, that I suggest to contact Pro support. Otherwise, it is a normal optical rendering. Personally, this is the best way to ease my mind if I face any technical problems.
  14. I have the 14mm GM but didn't make plans for astrophotography yet. But I will be making some soon, we are going to get some nice meteor showers in the summer and a supermoon at the end of August. For the latter I have my 100-400 GM with 1.4x tele.
  15. Not a mistake. I had the same thoughts and over time saw where I would need to use it, and I'm very happy I did not sell it. Sony's website have their own distribution facility. Other stores might still have some quantities left. It hasn't been discontinued, only restocking has been slow. Logistics still did not recover.
  16. I never thought of shooting the solar eclipse. I might try it for the first time. Do you have a recommendation on workflow, equipment and post-processing?
  17. I print my images sparingly, so I still can't justify printing at home yet. I use the BayPhoto too. They are excellent, and have print profile you can use to gauge your colors before you send them to print.
  18. It's the best thing to shoot. I got one college basketball game to shoot this season. I'll shoot swimming and tennis for the first time after spring break. I agree regarding the light. We got good light, mixed temperature and quality, and the court is yellow-ish. I wish everyone would copy the Brooklyn Nets' court.
  19. Da Vinci runs on PC and it's free. I recommend you give it a try.
  20. I haven't checked all the models, except the ones I personally own. I only made a safe assumption and always advise to check before doing anything. Leaks would happen on older sensors, but the new ones are more robust. But I suggest to check with the company you would like to have modify your cameras. Companies differ with their final results and quality.
  21. There is an option for Anti-Flicker in the camera. I have used it and didn't face any issues. But I only use this if I have to shoot in silent mode. Otherwise, follow Ira's instruction and use the mechanical shutter.
  22. I have the privilege to be the editor in addition to being the photographer for a collage newspaper. We do have a shot list, but those are not that many on a collegiate level. I do and tell the student photographer the same thing, take your "own" shots. I encourage myself and them to test, experiment, play and have fun. In the end, we will all graduate and move on, making this an opportunity to learn a bit about the industry and develop our skills. I personally shoot an average of 500-1500 shots depending on the sport. From those shots, about 20-50 go to the news paper website and one or two to print. I get the same number of different images for my own creativity and self development. This is what I told the students and I would tell anyone starting: in addition to learning and experimenting, go have fun!
  23. It's not only a feature, it is an advantage! I have many college students who cannot afford native lenses, making cheaper, good third party lenses more desirable and feasible to them.
  24. Sony's mount system lets use FF lenses on APS-C bodies and APS-C lenses on FF bodies, and this is now being copied by other brands. The lens will work perfectly fine, but you'll need to go to APS-C mode (super 35) to remove the "vignetting" and this will make the lens 15-30mm. Therefore, in addition to changes in the focal length, your image will have approximately 24 Mpixel resolution.

Don't let the menu bother you so much. No system out there has a "perfect" menu (and this is subjective). That's why it's best to take advantage of the custom menu and make it perfect for you. Now as for the body, it is the compactness and they weight. Sometimes a regular body is too big and somewhat flashy, calling for attention. The A7C is not only compact, it also looks modest and still is a full frame sensor with amazing video. Also to some people, it removes the "I'm on the job" feeling and makes shooting more enjoyable.
